In this issue of a local periodical "Priroda Pskovskogo Kraia" ("Nature of Pskov Lands")  (1999, issue 6), a paper on the ortopterous insects of the "Sebezhskii" National Park (situated in the South West of the Pskov region near the borders of Latvia and Buelorussia) is published. The paper by Peter Saveliev, a member of our circle, is based on the results of the 1999 field trip. You can find the paper abstract here.

The publication of the journal "Priroda Pskovskogo Kraia" (Nature of the Pskov Lands) is supported by Baltic Fund for Nature of the St. Petersburg Naturalists' Society.

The larva depicted on the front cover belongs to Acronicta alni L. (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) (after an ink-drawing by Alexei Matov).

Saveliev, P.V. Entomofauna of the National Park "Sebezhskii": Orthoptera (Insecta). // Priroda Pskovskogo Kraia [Nature of Pskov Land], 1999, 6. P. 19-21.

A list of species based on the results of the 1999 field trip includes 20 species representing 11 genera and 3 families of Orthoptera. 5 species (Pholidoptera cinerea (L.) and Conocephalus dorsalis Latr. (Tettigoniidae), Tetrix tenuicornis Sahlb. (Tetrigidae), Oedipoda caerulescens (L.), and Chortippus vagans (Ev.) (Acrididae)) are noted for the National Park territory for the first time. Taking into account the previously published paper by A. Voznesenskii, the local species list is extended to 29 species. Abundance estimations and data on the distribution of species by habitats are given. Literature cited: 5 titles.
